Periodically turn the clean-out pump on to remove the dirty water. You should start from the top and work your way down to the bottom.

  • Use the gentle stream provided from a garden hose to rinse the rocks and gravel.
  • Some algae on the rocks are beneficial in developing a strong ecosystem.
  • Rinse the inside of the pond by using the pressure washer to remove debris from the rocks and gravel.
  • Keep them in a shady spot with a net over the top of the pool to prevent them from jumping out.
  • Be sure not to keep the fish in the holding tub for more than several hours.
  • Your fish can be removed from the pond using a net once the water is low enough so you can easily catch them.
  • If you have fish, use some of this pond water to fill up the holding tub.
  • Be sure to relocate the pipe two or three times to allow the water to seep into the ground and not flood the yard.
  • Drain the water into the surrounding landscape.
  • Place the clean-out pump in the deepest point of the pond in order to remove as much water as you can.
  • Aquascape Cold Water Beneficial Bacteria.
  • Aquascape Pond Detoxifier to remove chlorine and chloramines prior to putting fish back.
  • Five-gallon bucket to collect leaves and debris (At Least 2).
  • A net or something similar to place over the fish container to keep them from jumping out.
  • A large tub container to hold fish and any other critters you find during the clean-out (Kiddie Pool Often Works Well).
  • A high-pressure nozzle for your garden hose, or a pressure washer.
  • A clean-out pump with approximately 25 ft.
  • Either way, you may want to plan between 3 to 5 hours to finish your pond clean-out depending on the size of your water feature. Sometimes with just a bit of tidying the water can look clearer. However, if you only see a small amount of debris you can usually use a net to stir up smaller amounts and scoop up with a net.
